Euskadi: Kaixo, north!

Green in the mountains, blue with touches of the white of the waves and titanium museums that change color. We are talking about culture, beaches, pintxos and txakoli, good people, biking and walking routes, world famous festivals and landscapes that inspire novels… If you are one of those who are looking to enjoy everything a little out of the conventional, this is your trip!

Bilbao, that city with an industrial past, which now shows itself proud and clean to the traveler, will be the starting point of our trip.

We will greet Puppy at the Guggenheim and sail along the estuary in a sailboat, ending the days with pintxos washed down with zuritos and txacolí.

By bicycle or on foot, we will enjoy the surroundings, the Aitzgorri mountain range, the Bidasoa greenway, the mystery novel landscapes of the Baztan Valley in Navarra, without leaving aside -it would not be possible! – the wineries of the Rioja Alavesa and the local gastronomy that will charge us with energy every day to continue the adventure to San Sebastian, the pearl of the Bay of Biscay.

DAY 1: City of origin - Bilbao

Arrival in Bilbao where we are expected to start the adventure. We will take a sailing route from the port of Bilbao to the Guggenheim Museum, going up the estuary and discovering the “industrial past” of Bilbao as we observe the evolution of the estuary, with a historian of the area.

Of course, a private guided tour of the Guggenheim Museum is a must.

Accommodation in a 4* hotel.

DAY 2: Oñati - Arrikutz caves

After breakfast, we will travel to the interior of the province of Guipuzcoa to settle in Oñati, a historic place with the first University of the Basque Country (Santi Spíritus) and a great Basque tradition. We will start with a guided caving activity outside the tourist circuit, in the Arrikrutz caves.

In the afternoon, we will continue with a guided tour of the historical part of the city and head to the town square to get to know the local life and people.

Accommodation in a charming hotel in the center of Oñati.

DAY 3: Oñati - Hiking Aitzgorri Mountain Range

We will gather strength at breakfast to go on a hiking route through the Aitzgorri mountain range learning about the pastoral tradition of the area and the production of cheese.

Accommodation in a charming 3* hotel.

DAY 4: Rioja Alavesa - Vineyards by bicycle

Today we move to the south, to the Rioja Alavesa. We will make a bike ride along the tracks between the vineyards, discovering tasks and ways of working the land and then visit a winery in the area and have lunch.

Accommodation in a 4* hotel located in the Rioja Alavesa wine region.

DAY 5: Pamplona - Trekking in Baztán Navarro

After getting to know Rioja Alavesa and its earthly pleasures, we cross Pamplona to go to Baztán Navarro. We will be lucky enough to taste local products from the orchard for lunch.

Lodging in a Rural House in the Baztan Valley.

DAY 6: Baztan Valley

After breakfast, we will hike along the Camino de Santiago Baztanés between the towns of Urdazubi and Amaiur (here we will visit the remains of the last fortress of the ancient Kingdom of Navarre).

Lodging in the Rural House in the Baztan Valley.

DAY 7: Bidasoa Greenway - Txingundi Bay - San Sebastián

Today we will cycle along the Bidasoa Greenway (Doneztebe – Hendaye) to reach the bay of Txingudi where the border with France is marked. From Hendaye – Hondarribia, a transfer will take us to the wonderful city of San Sebastian.

Accommodation in a 4* hotel.

DAY 8: San Sebastian - Zarautz - Zumaia

Settled in San Sebastian, we will spend two days hiking along the coast between Zarautz and Zumaia making a stop at a local txakoli winery to learn about their wines, and taste some local products. We will have a cooking class with local products, a guided visit to the San Telmo Museum and enjoy the charms of the city.
