Andalucía: Cycling through Sierra de Aracena

The Sierra Morena is a synonym with bandit, transhumance, hunter, and legendary stories. . .but it also means archeology, fauna, history, and traditions. To the west, inside the Huelva province, there is a gem called Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche that was declared a natural park in 1989. This area has unmatched ecological values within our bull skin.

During this week-long bike tour, we will embark on a six-day mountain bike trip through the main villages of the Sierra de Aracena.

We will explore the most interesting natural areas of Spanish geography. Crossing the Natural Park and riding through the centenary paths is one of the main attractions.

We will discover the most beautiful villages of the Sierra such as Almonaster la Real, Castaño del Robledo, Aracena, Galaroza, Linares, Los Marines, Fuenteheridos, and Jabugo.

The latter is where the best acorn-fed Iberian ham in the world is produced (with Jabugo PDO). Many of the villages have been declared Historic Sites.

The Sierra does not have very high peaks. The tallest peak in the natural park is the El Cerro del Castaño with an altitude of 962 meters. However, the terrain is very broken, which gives it a certain hardness, and some of the roads have technical areas, with rocky trails, which will delight those bikers who have at least an average level.
